My opinion the best rope to start with is a small diameter, XXS, rope. Length wise the standards are pretty much the same, on the head end 30-31 feet and on the heel side 35-36 feet. As far as rope brand the best advise I can give you is to swing as many ropes as you can at the store and see which one feels the best to you. I have gone through a bunch of different ropes trying to find what feels best and I can swing comfortably. I really am liking the XPLOSION, my daughter uses the Classic ZOOM a great begginer rope in my opinion. Hope this helps.
