Ask the Flagger

Philip,

A roper violated the dress code. The flagger allowed the team to complete the roping after the infraction was called to his attention. What is the correct ruling?

John

John,

Thank you for your question. First off I need to say that when a Flagger is hired to do a job he should know the rules of that roping. The Flagger is also hired to enforce the rules of that roping. I personally believe that the Flagger should have flagged the team out with a No-Time. The roper should not have been allowed to complete the roping because, if he would have placed, that would not have been fair to the other ropers that followed the rules…

I also need to say if the roping was multi-entries and the ‘Dress Code Violator’ changed to be in compliance for his other run; he would then be eligible to receive a time with his next partner. Remember: It is your obligation to know the rules of the roping you are competing in.
